Title: ESRI Data and Maps
Originator: TeleAtlas and ESRI
Abstract:
ESRI Data & Maps contains many types of map data. This data is useful for general purpose basemaps and for more specific uses. Most of the ESRI Data & Maps collection can also now be accessed directly from ArcGIS Online where it has been made available as a set of layer packages you can download. NRCS has chosen to make some of the map data downloadable from the Geospatial Data Gateway. For more information on ESRI Data and Maps click here.
The data is not freely redistributable. Much of the sample data is provided by various, third party data vendors under license to ESRI for inclusion on ESRI Data & Maps disks for use with ESRI software. Redistribution rights are granted by the data vendor for hardcopy renditions or static, electronic map images (for example, .gif, .jpeg) that are plotted, printed, or publicly displayed with proper metadata and source/copyright attribution to the respective data vendor/vendors.
The following ESRI Data and Map layers are available from the Gateway:
-Airports by State (polygons) Sample map
Provides the boundaries for thousands of airports and runways. There are many attributes that describe each airport,
for example, location id (airport code), owner, elevation, congestion level, large certified air carrier enplanements, foreign enplanements,
hub size, and tower type.
-Area Landmarks (polygons) Sample map
Provides thousands of common landmark areas within the United States. The areas can be used as a cultural
layer at local and regional levels. Each landmark is named.
-Zip Code Demographic Statistics (polygons) Sample map
Provides demographic information for each zipcode in a county and contains all demographic attributes from the corresponding polygons.
-State Demographic Statistics by State (polygons) Sample map
Provides state level boundaries and demographic information for each of the U.S. states.
-Highways (lines) Sample map
Provides the major highways of the United States. These include interstates and inter-metropolitan area highways and major roads.
-Institutions (points) Sample map
Provides the locations for hundreds of thousands of hospitals, educational institutions, places of worship, government offices,
cemeteries, museums, and libraries. Each institution is named and shows the state and county it resides in.
-Parks (polygons) Sample map
Provides thousands of parks and forests at national, state, county, regional, and especially local levels. Each feature is named.
-Places by State (polygons) Sample map
Provides area locations for populated places including attributes—name, FIPS code, census class, area, and
selected demographic data from the U.S. Census.
-Postal Inventory by State (points) Sample map
ZIP Code Points represents the five-digit U.S. ZIP Code areas as points, plus all ZIP Codes that have no area and are represented as
points rather than areas such as Post-Office-Box ZIP Codes and unique ZIP Codes (for example, defining an organization).
Provides the post office name, types, and area for each ZIP Code location in the United States.
-Postal Boundaries (Zipcode) by State (polygons) Sample map
ZIP Code Areas (Five-Digit) represents five-digit ZIP Code areas used by the U.S. Postal Service to deliver mail more effectively. The
first digit of a five-digit ZIP Code divides the United States into 10 large groups of states numbered from 0 in the Northeast to 9 i
n the far West. Within these areas, each state is divided into an average of 10 smaller geographical areas, identified by the second
and third digits. These digits, in conjunction with the first digit, represent a sectional center facility or a mail processing facility area. The fourth and fifth digits identify a post office, station, branch or local delivery area.
ZIP Code Areas (Five-Digit) provides area, post office name, and population for each ZIP Code area in the United States.
-Railroads (lines) Sample map
Provides railroads for national, state, and provincial display.
-Recreation Areas (points) Sample map
Provides the locations of common recreational landmarks including golf courses, amusement parks, beaches, and park and recreation
areas. Each recreation area is named and shows the state and county it resides in.
-Retail Centers by State (points) Sample map
Provides the locations of major retail centers.
-Streets (lines) Sample map
Provides a network of primary and secondary roads and highways, including local neighborhood streets.
-Transportation Terminals by State (points) Sample map
Provides the locations of transportation terminals. All transportation terminals are named and show the state and county they reside in.
